Brazed PCBN Cutting Tool Blanks

Brazed PCBN cutting tool blanks represent one of the most mature product forms among composite superhard tool materials. Through the HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) process, cubic boron nitride and bonding agents are directly sintered onto a cemented carbide substrate to form a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) composite. The PCBN layer provides the excellent wear resistance and isotropic properties of polycrystalline cBN, while the carbide substrate ensures high fracture toughness and excellent brazability. Using laser cutting or EDM (electrical discharge machining), the composite can be pre-formed into various insert geometries, offering broad applicability and a high degree of customization.


Our brazed PCBN blanks cover a grain size range from 1 μm to 15 μm, with CBN content ranging from 40% to 90%. The series includes the F-series for general-purpose applications and the H-series for enhanced wear resistance, suitable for continuous and interrupted roughing to finishing of cast iron, hardened steels, and high-temperature alloys. The blanks are available with diameters exceeding 55 mm, featuring a uniform, defect-free PCBN layer. Standard inventory is readily available, and both the PCBN layer thickness and overall blank thickness can be customized. According to customer requirements, the blanks can be cut into any insert geometry for delivery.
